The 'WDR 2012: Gender Equality and Development,' to be launched on September 19, 2011, provides facts and trends regarding the various dimensions of gender equality in the context of the development process. It argues first that gender equality is a core development issue—a primary objective of development in its own right. Following Sen (1999) and others, the point of departure for the Report is a view of development as a process of expanding freedoms equally for men and women.
